IPhone Atlas has discovered a couple of nice, unnanounced extras in the latest v1.1.3 iPhone update. The first is an increase to the amount of SMS messages the iPhone can store. The limit has been upped from 1000 to “about 75,000″. Lord knows why. The next thing will be PCs with more than 64k of memory. Also, and probably more useful for the average user, is two-fingered (or two-thumbed) typing. You thought you already had that feature? Well, you didn’t. Previously, you had to lift a finger from one key before hitting the next, effectively slowing typing speeds, already a much moaned about problem with the iPhone. Now it will keep up with you, and also take input from two keys at once, allowing quicker use of the shift key, for example. (Read the full post about ‘Hidden Extras in iPhone 1.1.3 Update’…)
When someone says "Shoot!," what gadget you think of? This contraption crosses the streams, at least conceptually, letting you swap out Nikkor-compatible lenses and look like a public menace to all around you. Be sure to take one of these instead of the D70 when you’re after arty shots of federal courthouses, nuclear plants, presidential candidates, that sort of thing. If you liked the ball-bearing tangible drum sequencer the other day, you’ll love this: some students at UC Berkeley’s School of Information have created a similar device, this time combining computer imaging and bubblegum balls to create bangin’ tunes.
I don’t know if it is the shape, the black and silver steel contrast or the total retro feeling, but this point-and-shoot handgun and camera is just absolutely amazing. Sure, it’s not digital. And maybe not as useful as the Leica Gun. I don’t care. I’m in love. Bang bang, this baby shot me down. Those Koreans sure do get spoilt on the technology front; check out Ripple’s Ripple-Mini PC, for example. The device, which will retail for a shockingly low €90 ($132), will pack in an Intel Celeron M215 (1.33GHz), 1GB RAM, SiS 662 North Bridge and SiS 964L South Bridge, all in a dinky 20×300x220mm, Mac mini-esque case. Hit the gallery for some more shots.galleryPost(’rippleminigi’, 3, ”); We just cannot get over the price of this machine. Sure, it may be far off from an 8-core super beast, but given the spec, it is firmly in Everex’s gPC territory. Given the price, it is firmly in a class of its own. Now that sewing circle of Taiwanese component makers have whispered a few secrets in the direction of DigiTimes. We already heard directly from ASUS at CES that 7-, 8-, and 8.9-inch models are in the works. Now DigiTimes claims a “9-inch” (we’ll assume that’s just the 8.9-incher rounded up) and new 10-inch version is also on the way. Notably, the 9-inch versions will feature “four-wire resistive” touch-panels. Great, right? Sure, at first blush what’s not to like about an Eee with a touchscreen. However, a goo (Read the full post about ‘Eee PC with 9-inch touchscreen in the works?’…)

If it’s simply the same Sprint hardware we know and love repackaged in white, we can expect EV-DO, microSD expansion, Windows Mobile 6 Professional dressed up to be about as finger-friendly as it possibly can be, and a 2 megapixel camera. That brisk breeze is carrying a new partner for the long and lonely Canuck winter nights: the N810 internet tablet, the all-singing, all-dancing sliver wonder. The handheld — which your friends (namely, us) have been flaunting for months — is finally making its way into the hands of Canadian consumers for the thrifty price of $485 (a downright bargain).
