Posted Jan 22nd 2008 9:23AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Cellphones, Wireless, NetworkingIt’s not like we haven’t seen truckloads of portable WiFi routers before, but iBox2Go seems pretty jazzed up about its iteration. The dubiously named HotSpot in a Box arrives in a relatively large case that’s sure to make avid travelers scratch their heads, and looks to include Sprint’s Novatel U727 EV-DO card along with all the required cabling. Consumers can select from a trio of routers: the iB100 features USB only and a single Ethernet port, the iB300 adds PCMCIA and the iB500 tacks on an ExpressCard slot, 802.11n support and three more RJ-45 ports. The all-white Sony PS3 (model CECHH01) will most likely drop in the US soon since it has surfaced on the FCC website, complete with North American (US/FR/ES) user manuals and all. Guess there’ll be white next gen consoles all round now when this hits retail stores - the Wii, the Xbox 360 and now, the PS3. It will be the 40GB version and comes with a matching white SIXAXIS controller. Will we see a further price reduction? Probably not, so be prepared to pay $399 for this hot hatch when it becomes available. Tags: mobile phone, hdtv, robots, electronic toys (Read the full post about ‘All White PS3 Heading For US’…)

Sprint Nextel has announced that it will close 125 of its retail stores, eliminate over 4,000 3rd party distribution points, and cut 4,000 jobs. Company officials say they expect the cuts to be complete by June. The job cuts affect most departments, including sales, marketing, product and development, network, information technology, finance, human resources, legal and communications but will not be extended to the customer service or repair departments. Sprint, the third largest provider, has been struggling to compete with Verizon and AT&T since it’s botched merger with Nextel two years ago and lost 683,000 subscribers last quarter. Sprint says the moves will save $700 to $800 million a year. (Read the full post about ‘Sprint to close 125 stores, cut 4,000 jobs’…)

"Even the butterflies deserted the open space where the obscene thing grinned and dripped. Simon lowered his head, carefully keeping his eyes shut… The pile of guts was a black blob of flies that buzzed like a saw. After a while these flies found Simon. They were black and iridescent green and without number; and in front of Simon, the Lord of the Flies hung on his stick and grinned."
