Posted Jan 24th 2008 1:01PM by Paul MillerFiled under: Gaming According to a leaked internal Best Buy memo picked up by the fine folks at PS3 Fanboy, the 80GB SKU is going the way of… well, of every PS3 model that came before it. If the report is true, this means Best Buy will only have the 40GB PS3 on offer, and zero PS3s with any sort of PS2 backwards compatibility — just like all of Japan. Just in time for Valentines Day, Apple announced a new color iPod, pink of course. What can I tell you that you don’t already know about the nano that plays video? That the 4GB model costs $149, the 8GB iPod costs $199? It includes free engraving on the back and free shipping when purchased at Apple’s web store or Amazon. And …it’s pink. ![Rumor: Best Buy Dumping 80GB PS3, Will Only Sell 40GB Version [Rumor]](/wp-content/thumbs/rumor-best-buy-dumping-80gb-ps3-will-only-sell-40gb-version-rumor.jpg)
One of the nice things about the Wii is that there’s only version to buy. Luckily for Best Buy shoppers in the market for a PS3, they’re about to get that same convenience. According to a supposedly leaked internal memo, Best Buy is only going to carry the non-backward-compatible 40GB version of the PS3 as of the end of this month. Shitcanning the 80GB model makes sense, actually. PS3 sales didn’t really get going until it hit the $399 pricepoint, and it undoubtedly outsells the more expensive 80GB version far and away, which is just sucking up Best Buy’s valuable shelf space that could be used for, say, more 40GB models. White ones. See, fans of “choice,” Sony has you covered. (Read the full post about ‘Rumor: Best Buy Dumping 80GB PS3, Will Only Sell 40GB Version [Rumor]’…)

When you’re on the bus or subway, or anywhere that people tend to be sitting for long periods you tend to notice that many of them are listening to MP3 players. What’s more is that you can almost always pick out the ones rocking out to an iPod by their iconic white earbuds. Most people I know that carry an iPod still use the same earbuds that came with the player because they like the way they look and sound. Well if you’re one that likes the look, here’s a giant pair you can sit on your desktop. Yes, these are extremely cheesy, but I suppose if you’re a huge Apple fanatic you might be proud to have them sitting on your desk. (Read the full post about ‘500XL Speakers are giant iPod earbuds’…)

According to a user over on the TreoCentral user forums, Palm is preparing to close its retail locations by January 31, 2008. At this time, there has not been any official confirmation, however with all the recent trouble that Palm has been having it has a ring of truth to it. The user “treoneo” of course cannot reveal his “source” so time will have to tell on this one. With all the recent popularity of the Centro, Palm’s troubles have been getting pushed into the back of our minds a little bit. I do mean a little bit though because I am sure its not hard to remember all the delays of Palm OS II, not to mention the recent employee layoffs. Lighting: which lamp to choose?Jan 24, 2008 Lighting is a very important thing. An exclusive beautiful lamp can totally change the view of the room. But here comes a question: what lamp should I choose? Should it be something laconic and functional, or is it better to buy an extravagant and outstanding lamp? At first, let’s talk about functionality and use. Adesso Boogie Architect iLamp is definitely the best one for a teenager or just a modern person. If you like listening to music and you have all your favorite songs on your iPod or any other compact music player, this lamp will make your listening more comfortable. Now this is rather weird, but researchers have successfully come up with a way to make your cameraphone function as a mouse - whenever you’re not receiving or making a call, naturally. This software relies on Bluetooth technology to keep it going, and enables the cell phone to interact with public displays. For example, users can obtain product information or purchase tickets simply by using the camera. Unfortunately, this idea still requires a great deal of work before it is ready for a commercial release since the image capture and image processing rate on the cell phone is rather slow, and you have to deal the with the lag. ![Earnings Roundup: Nintendo, AT&T and Nokia Make Mad Bank [Money, Money]](/wp-content/thumbs/earnings-roundup-nintendo-att-and-nokia-make-mad-bank-money-money.jpg)
It’s the end of the quarter, which means it’s raining earnings reports—companies tell investors (and the world) just how much coin they’re swimming in (or bleeding out). Today, Nintendo revealed that the Wii is printing money twice as fast as last year; AT&T pulled in almost 3 million new subscribers; Nokia now commands 40 percent of the handset; and Netflix is doing pretty well, too. Big numbers are this-a-ways. So how fast is the Wii printing money now vs. last year? Because Nintendo is all weird and Japanese (not really), they don’t do a quarterly breakdown, but a three-quarterly breakdown.
