![Infrared-Beaming Helmet May Battle Alzheimer’s [Medical]](http://gadgetsinternet.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/5734.jpg)
Despite looking like a freaky PC case-mod for your head, researchers say this helmet may serve as a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. It directs low levels of infrared light at the skulls of Alzheimer’s sufferers in order to combat the disease by stimulating brain cell growth. A medical team from Sunderland and Durham Universities in the UK believe this could help combat the disease, having already tested the idea on mice. In that test, the mice gained better learning ability afterwards. A human test will go ahead in the summer. Current therapy for Alzheimer’s sufferers doesn’t correct for cell-loss, which is why this technology may be promising. This is retro futuristic at its best. Take an outdated fashion from the 80’s, i.e. slap bracelets and turn them into something pretty cool. These E-Paper Slap Bracelets operate off kinetic energy and display photos without needing a recharge. However, like anything from Yanko Design, it’s but a concept. For those of you whose wit is as dull as a putty knife, you can level the playing field with two random line generators. The first is the Pick Up Line Generator, with such classics as “Is it hot in here, or is it just you?ac=658233465&” If that doesn’t do it, you might want to try the other 39 sayings available at the Push of the button. Perhaps it is not love that you are offering, but a genuine dose of hatred. There is the Insult Generator for that. At a touch of a button, you fire away your taunting arrows like “you are pure inspiration for birth control” and many others. Assuming that I was still single, I think I might be slightly embarrassed to buy the Pick Up Line Generator. (Read the full post about ‘Pick Up Line and Insult Generators’…)

Posted Jan 24th 2008 8:21PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Misc. Gadgets It seems as if Nokia’s not the only mega-corp on the block with good news to proclaim to Wall Street today, as the giant from Redmond is proudly announcing record second quarter results and pinpointing “robust holiday sales and enterprise demand drive” as the culprit. In the three months ending December 31, 2007, Microsoft pulled in some $16.37 billion in revenue and $6.48 billion in operating income, which translated to 30-percent and 87-percent growth in each area, respectively. We learned all about the MacBook Air just a few days ago, but a few people have been playing with the device at least that long. Today three major publications, the Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and USA Today posted their Air reviews. The testing was conducted by tech writing all-stars Walt Mossberg, Steven Levy, and Edward C. Baig, respectively. If you are going to just read one, check out the WSJ article, but all three bring out interesting details. Of course people are ravenous for definitive opinions about the Air as well as more information about heavily speculated aspects, like battery life, processor power, and general usability, so you might want to read all three, especially if you are considering buying an Air. The upcoming movie “The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep” has prompted one hell of a publicity stunt in Tokyo Bay. The extremely cool effect illustrated above is achieved using a large water screen and some very well timed water fountains. In order to get the full effect, check out the video after the break. Seriously, I can’t understand a thing that is being said, but I want to see this movie. Marketing magic!
