In a novel twist in trying to get new employment, one online startup is offering potential candidates cash for attending interviews.
Rather than going to an agency or submitting your resume to an online site, NotchUp.com would like you to use its service instead. You still submit your details, qualifications, and previous experience, but you also get to set a price for interview. Any prospective employers can then view your details and then, if interested, must pay the amount you have specified to gain an interview.
If the interview goes ahead, then NotchUp.com will pay the fee into your PayPal account minus a transaction charge of between 15-20%.

With gazillions new models being launched every three months and previous models deemed unfit for social use and technologically antiquated, the cellphone industry has got to be one of the biggest generators of e-waste today. Thankfully the environmental concerns of the Chocolate Design Agency brought forth the P-Per cellphone which claims to be made of only four layers of sustainable materials with each layer governing a particular function. As one might imagine, this cellphone does not offer the most terribly complicated operations but I think it’s worth having our planet live a couple more million years. Check out more pictures and video of the concept after the jump. [Source] Tags: CD, (Read the full post about ‘Super recyclable P-Per cell phone concept’…)

Oh how I wish the Pitapocket wallet created by Israeli designer Anat Safran wasn’t just a concept. I love pita pockets like nobody’s business, so even if I would get strange looks when I pulled out what looked like an unwrapped pita from my purse at the checkout stand, it would still be worth it. The temptation to line the inside with lettuce leaves would be difficult to resist, but I need to work on my willpower anyway. Via DesignSpotter. Posted Jan 29th 2008 10:05PM by Paul MillerFiled under: Robots Research is still in the early stages, but the concept renders are straight out of science fiction. Some friendly folks at Carnegie Mellon University are working towards electromagnetic microscopic bots that cling together and can assume virtually any shape. Down the line that means rapid prototyping, the promise of “claytronics,” and the mysterious deaths of plane crash victims, but current examples of the tech are anything but slick. The primary uniting element is that the bots being developed have no moving parts, instead using magnetic forces to pull themselves around in relation to each other. Peep the video after the break for some samples. (Read the full post about ‘Shape-shifting magnetic bots take a page out of the Dharma playbook’…)

Posted Jan 29th 2008 6:11PM by Donald MelansonFiled under: Robots In yet another example of robots getting the short end of stick, a Japanese weather forecasting company is set to deploy a swarm of some 200 pollen-sniffing robots throughout the country, which will warn us humans of any impeding pollen-related dangers (and no doubt scare a few unsuspecting animals in the process). As you can see, the robots are of the spherical variety, and measure a scant one foot across and weigh in at about 2.2 pounds. Sticking true to creepy robot conventions, they also boast glowing eyes, which light up in one of five different colors to indicate the level of pollen in the air.
