We’ve been waiting for Dell to pop a Penryn chip inside one of its laptops — so far it’s been HP and Toshiba sitting pretty with some of the few Penryn laptop offerings in existence — but we didn’t think it’d come for free. Dell is pushing Penryn on consumers with an upgrade to the existing XPS M1330 line, which is a far sight smaller than what HP and Toshiba intro’d Penryn in, but the best news is that if you build out the AUD$2,000 model (which includes 4GB of RAM and other perks) you get a free “upgarde” [sic] to the Core 2 Duo T9300 processor, at least for today. Posted Feb 6th 2008 9:21AM by Paul MillerFiled under: Cellphones, GPS We’re rather watch a couple hours of Home Shopping Network than subject ourselves twice to these promo videos for Garmin’s nuvifone, but the “Scenario” video is at least worth a first viewing, since it provides a few action shots of the mail app, camera and (most importantly) browser in action. Don’t get too excited, this isn’t the tell-all we’ve been hoping for, but if you can’t get enough nuvifone — and who can? (Read the full post about ‘Garmin’s nuvifone flaunted on video’…)

Motherboard makers are affirming that Intel’s delayed x48 chipset is still on tap for mid-March along with the Core 2 Extreme QX9700 that will support it. The chipset was scheduled to head out back in December to replace the x38 chipset. The x48 chipset allows for a 1600MHz bus / DDR3 speed, while the x38 chipset is limited to 1333MHz bus but also uses DDR3. Read more at TechReport.
Although it may have been fun for overclockers, the Core 2 Extreme QX9700 that will support the speedier bus and memory speeds will not be out until March. Is this a marketing delay that would happen if AMD was firing on all cylinders? It’s not clear.

The link to gadgets here is tenuous at best, but this top 10 from Topless Robot is too funny not to share. The 10 Star Wars Toys that Unintentionally Look Like Other Celebrities is exactly what it sounds like. Pictured above are Slave Leia / Christian Bale and Dengar / Johnny Cash. Head over to the site to see the other eight, especially the almost uncanny similarity between General Rieekan and John Kerry. The 10 Star Wars Toys that Unintentionally Look Like Other Celebrities [Topless Robot via BoingBoing] Tags: speakers, video games, PDA, TV (Read the full post about ‘Celebrity Star Wars Toy Lookalikes’…)

InfoSonics Corporation will be rolling out its verykool line-up at the upcoming 3GSM show in Barcelona that will feature GPRS, EDGE and 3G connectivity. These devices are currently in their final testing stages, so don’t expect the paraded handsets to be bug-free at the show. Some of the features for these upcoming devices will include jumping onto the touch screen display bandwagon, integrated video playback, cameras of high megapixel count, e-mail access, PC Sync, and expansion memory slots. They have been designed to target the youth market (whether biologically or those who are young-at-heart, it doesn’t matter). Should be pretty interesting to check these out IMHO. Posted Feb 6th 2008 4:14AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Cellphones, Portable Audio After having scooped the world with the first press shots of the N82 in silver, Intomobile brings us the first shots of the N82 in black. Nothing else is new. Then again, with a 5 megapixel camera, xenon flash, Carl Zeiss glass and quad-band GSM with HSDPA data, assisted GPS, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, FM Tuner, 3.5-mm jack, microSD slot, and 2.4-inch auto-rotating display… is there anything you’re missing? NEC turns on the style by featuring laptops that come with Toshiko Kimura’s drawings on them. It is actually a LaVie G Type L laptop that runs on an AMD processor, but never mind the specifications. After all, if you’re one who is looking for something aesthetically pleasing without paying too much attention to the specifications, this new pimped up line will do very nicely. After all, NEC doesn’t have the history and pedigree of killer laptops in the past so one can expect this to be a beautiful package that has enough to handle everyday word processing and Internet surfing.
