ABC will begin offering more of its shows on video-on-demand (VOD) services. That means viewers may have a backup plan if they forget to record their favorite show. Unfortunately, watching the show through the video-on-demand service won’t be entirely free.
Don’t get me wrong. You won’t have to pay anything out of pocket for the show, but you will be forced to watch the commercials associated with it. That’s because fast-forward will be disabled on these shows.

The ThinkPad x300 is finally available to users and if you have been following the tech news lately you surely know all about it by now. It’s a lightweight notebook with a LED-backlit 13.3″ display, with a Core 2 Duo processor that comes standard with a solid state drive. It sells for at least $2548 so it’s not cheap, but no one expected a release of this magnitude to be affordable, especially given how a 64GB SSD is going to inflate the price at this early stage in the game. It’s thin (0.73-0.92″), it’s light (starting at 2.9lbs), and it has an optical drive, but what else should you know about the X300? Yes, Apple announced the SDK conference will take place next Thursday. Exciting. But perhaps more exciting, came this bit: “some exciting new enterprise features.” What is exciting about enterprise? It could be the Lotus application we know IBM has been working on. It could be Exchange support. It could have something to do with Captain Kirk. The event is schedule for March 6 at 10am and is titled, “iphone Software Roadmap”. This kinda suggests we won’t see much in the way of completed apps or perhaps a completed SDK, rather the info on the “hows” and “whys”. While face detection has become a common feature in modern digital cameras, Sony took one step ahead and developed the first camera with smile detection, the DSC-T300, and proudly announced it today. The main attraction of this camera is certainly Sony’s new smile detection technology. So how does this new feature work? When the camera is set to smile detection mode, a user can select one out of the three preset smile detection levels (i.e. smile, grin, and great grin). After the shutter button is pressed, the camera will detect the target’s face and shoot the photo automatically once the chosen smile level is reached. Vtech’s V.Smile gaming consoles are aimed at kids so squarely that you might never notice how interesting the technology is. Take, for example the handheld V.Smile Pocket. That it uses the exact same cartridges as the standard set-top V.Smile console is a neat touch that parents will appreciate. That it’s basically a handheld $40 SNES equivalent is an even neater one. There’s even a 3D-accelerated version called the V.Flash, sold for about $60. Of course, the games you can actually buy aren’t of much interest to mature gamers: they’re kids’ stuff, like alphabet learning games and basic platformers with movie tie-in themes. Posted Feb 27th 2008 12:20PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Storage Oh sure, we’ve seen Mickey-themed flash drives before, but for avid fans and collectors alike, there can never be too many, right? On the docket today is the T703 Mickey Flash Drive from A-DATA, which wouldn’t be comfortable at all in one’s pocket for any length of time. Nevertheless, the iconic drive can apparently double as a keychain, and since it’s really the ears that give Mr. Mouse away, the firm decided to let you insert your favorite image in place of his face.
