That great perpetrator of worldly ills, the cosmic ray, has at last met its match. Intel has patented the concept of an on-chip detector of cosmic rays which would auto-correct for soft errors caused by the cosmic ray’s interference. Apparently Intel is concerned that cosmic rays — those perky particles from space that blast through the Earth’s atmosphere and tamper with your precious bodily fluids — are going to become “a major limiter of computer reliability in the next decade” as chips get smaller and smaller. Levi’s rolls out their first ever ‘The Original’ mobile phone
Globally famous jeans maker Levi’s today revealed their very-own cellphone. This is called ‘The Original’ and is equipped with 2 MP camera, 60 MB of in-built memory, MicroSD card slot and Bluetooth 1.2 with A2DP. The Original’s front, back and keypad are made of steel and soft plastic is used to manufacture top part. There’s nothing fancy about this phone other than the brand it carries and obviously the price. This short on specs and low on looks phone by highly loved brand (of clothes) will cost you $520. Which to me sounds nothing more than a fanboy’s thing. (Read the full post about ‘Levi’s rolls out their first ever ‘The Original’ mobile phone’…)

Angry Chinese woman sets 400 phones on fire
Posted Mar 8th 2008 9:26PM by Paul MillerFiled under: cellphones It’s a crazy, mixed-up world we live in. If we aren’t worrying about global warming or peace in the middle east, we have to be on the lookout for scorned women setting large quantities of mobile devices on fire. A certain Mrs. Wang is guilty of that latter offense. The 37-year-old Chinese woman wasn’t particularly stoked about her husband walking out on their marriage, so she did the only reasonable thing that presented itself: rounded up the entire stock of more than 400 phones the couple had at their joint-owned cellphone shop, and set the entire lot ablaze — inside her home. The collection was valued at roughly 300,000 yuan, about $42,000 US. (Read the full post about ‘Angry Chinese woman sets 400 phones on fire’…)

Sun prepping Java for iPhone: your craplet investment is safe
Posted Mar 8th 2008 6:54PM by Paul MillerFiled under: cellphones We’re sure there have been some really great Java Micro Edition apps developed over the years, we just haven’t been fortunate enough to find any that aren’t a Bejeweled variant run into many of them. But that could very well change with the news that Sun is using that fancy new SDK to develop a Java Virtual Machine for the iphone, which it expects to have ready “some time after June,” and which will allow iPhone users access to the vast libraries of existing JME apps. We suppose the real conundrum now is which Java ME app we’ll grab first: Harry Potter, or MapQuest Mobile. These choices, they overwhelm us.[Via Mac Rumors]Tags: PDA, Gadget, TV, g (Read the full post about ‘Sun prepping Java for iPhone: your craplet investment is safe’…)

Asus MS71, mini mouse meets flash drive

Asus MS71, mini mouse meets flash drive
Asus has just released a new travel mouse that in design is similar to a large tube of lipstick or a block from the game Jenga, with it’s miniature design and compact buttons the MS71 still allows for the basic functions of every mouse with two buttons and a scroll wheel. If you look closer you’ll find the the back portion of this little guy pops off and plugs into your computer which acts as the wireless transmitter for the mouse, and also at the same time acts as a thumb drive. The storage capacity of this device is unclear at this point but with the increasing storage in micro devices these days I would not be surprised to see a few gigs in there.
