Review: Army of Two for Xbox 360

Review: Army of Two for Xbox 360
Co-op gameplay is unquestionably in, especially in this generation of gaming. There’s an appeal to working together with a buddy and being able to live on to fight another day. Kind of like Gears of War, Army of Two’s main gameplay is a third-person shooter built around this premise. So, is this game more like “Lethal Weapon” or “Loaded Weapon”? Read on to find out. The paper-thin storyline sees a couple mercenaries paid handsomely to take out the world’s trash. Most action movies don’t have much of a plot either, so this can be forgiven. Suffice it to say, it’s just a mechanism and gives some rationale as to why you are knee-deep in enemy bodies without your country flag anywhere in sight. Gibson says Guitar Hero violates patents, Activision says nuh-uh
Posted Mar 12th 2008 5:04PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Gaming We’re not exactly clear on how Gibson’s legal team managed to license all those brand names and guitar designs to Activision for this many Guitar Hero games before realizing that the company maybe-sorta had a patent on the idea, but here we are: Activision filed a lawsuit yesterday asking the US District Court for Central California to invalidate a 1999 Gibson patent on “simulating a musical performance,” because apparently Gibson’s bugging them about it since January. Wait, just January? Seriously, people, you’d have thought this would’ve come up by now. (Read the full post about ‘Gibson says Guitar Hero violates patents, Activision says nuh-uh’…)

Lionsgate Includes iPod Version With DVDs

Posted on Mar 12, 2008 08:42:43 PM

In what might seem like a rare example of good sense from the Big Content industry, film studio Lionsgate has announced plans to sell special-edition DVDs that include an iPod/iphone version of the movie.

Not so great news: The discs will be loaded up with DRM that requires a serial code to load the movie into iTunes and limits each disc to attachment to a single iTunes library.

Truly bad news: The initial releases are "Rambo" and "The Eye," which feels rather like a slap at the taste of Appletonians. "Rambo," in particular, seems like the kind of opus destined to be viewed on a low-end portable DVD player.

Updated HTC Advantage out for pre-order

Posted on Mar 12, 2008 08:19:45 PM

Seems online shops are jumping the gun and making up some numbers on what to sell the HTC updated Advantage phone/micro laptop device.  Currently listed as pre-order the prices range from $550 to $1300.  HTC has not set an MSRP yet.

HTC updated the Advantage with more memory, an improved keyboard that is now magnetic and detachable with haptic feedback as our Robert Nelson reported on last month.  The new machine looks hot.

Pre-ordering is available at the following links:
On The Go Solutions
Smart Mobile gadgets
Clove Technology in the UK
Additionally, it is listed on Google Product Search to non-linked pages.  Looks like an HTC pricing announcement is imminent.

Jill Sobule is ready for the new digital recorded music age

Posted on Mar 12, 2008 05:04:08 PM

Many will recall Indie musician Jill Sobule from her track “I Kissed a Girl.” The song was a cross-over hit, and the video (the one co-starring Fabio) got a lot of MTV airplay in the 1990s. I saw her play a few years ago when she was touring with Lloyd Cole as a member of his band, the Negatives. Years later, Sobule is still touring and recording music. After going through a handful of music labels, both big and small, she is currently creating her own path.

Where Radiohead has now famously asked fans to pay what their latest CD is worth, Sobule has taken a slightly different route. In January, she asked fans on her website, Jill’s Next Record, to donate money before the she makes her next album.

RIM has a lock on way to disable mobile phone cameras

Posted on Mar 12, 2008 03:10:27 PM

Research In Motion (RIM) has an old fashioned idea to deal with a new and growing problem: mobile phones with cameras. Mobile cameras have been at the center of more than one national scandal, and it seems that RIM believes that businesses and organizations may want a way to disable cameras on mobile phones as needed. The company is proposing the use of a key, according to a patent application filed by the company.

The locking key could come in many forms. RIM suggests the use of a removable pin, small card, or even a good ol’ lock on a pin to prevent its removal.
