If you’re getting sick of your same old tunes on your iPhone, look no further than FlyTunes. The site features an iPhone-specific interface for streaming more than 90 channels of music, talk radio, and more direct to your iPhone. For my test I registered for a free account at FlyTunes.fm and then received an e-mail with information on how to get access to the service. The FlyTunes’ iPhone interface features the ability to choose your stream by Artists, Weather, Country, Dance, Kids, Local, Sports, Talk, and more. It’s very easy to use and to get started you just click on the icon corresponding to your selection. Within seconds the iPhone launches Quicktime and starts streaming. Posted Mar 13th 2008 11:49AM by Joshua TopolskyFiled under: Handhelds As you’ve probably figured out from all the OLPC XO and Intel Classmate news we’ve hit, computers aimed at students are a pretty hot topic these days. A Chicago-based nonprofit called Innovations for Learning has joined the fray with a new $50 entry dubbed the Teachermate. The small PCs come equipped with a 2.5-inch LCD display, 512MB of RAM, an SD slot, and built-in microphone and speaker. The systems are being rolled out to a whopping 500 Chicago elementary schools over the next two years, with the aim of having a unit in the hands of every child. The Casio G-Shock G5500C takes the green route, featuring Tough Solar Power (whatever that means), Shock Resistance and a Water Resistance of up to 200 meters. I like the white resin band that makes it ooze with class, although you’ll probably need to clean the underside regularly of dirt and grime in order to maintain a pristine appearance. You will be able to choose from three colors - red, green and white. No idea what you would do with four daily alarms though, but a countdown timer, an automatic light and world time in 48 cities round off the list of features for this $120 watch. Posted Mar 13th 2008 6:27AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Laptops What, you don’t read the official Transportation Security Administration blog? No worries, we’ve got your back on this one with the TSA’s official reaction to Michael Nygard’s missed flight as a result of its incredulous macbook air inspection. TSA agents are in fact trained to look for anomolies. So along come the MBA laptop. It’s new (thus, rarely seen), ridiculously thin, and lacks a mechanical hard drive and any visible ports. Requesting further inspection is exactly what Mr. Nygard should have expected. As surly and detached as TSA officers tend to be, in this case they were doing their job just as they were trained. Up until now, vudu doing quite well alone, but we all know that it is important to have third party accessories, integration and support in order to have a thriving ecosystem. This is what vudu is announcing today: many partners are going to support the vudu by creating compatible hardware and services around the vudu box. Each partner will announce their own solution, but here are the names: Control4, Crestron, Logitech, NetStreams, Philips, Universal Electronics Inc., and Universal Remote Control, Inc. That way, vudu can focus on the on-demand experience, while others take care of the customization aspect. Let’s wait and see. Posted Mar 13th 2008 9:10AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Gaming, Handhelds See that? You’re looking at a picture of the printed circuit board for Pandora. Ok, it’s hardly a completed product. In fact, it’s chipless. Still, it’s a measurable step away from product vapor and one step closer to the $320 (damn dollar!) $330 GP2X gaming computer we’re expecting to land in March or April. The robuCAB vehicle from France is a ‘4-seats automated people mover’ that was constructed from a 4-wheel drive electric chassis and complemented with an on-board computer. This vehicle does not need any driver as it follows the kerb while carrying a number of embedded systems. A camera will always keep an eye on the path edge, while another device tracks the angle and direction of the kerb whilst the rest take control of gearing and acceleration. Each robuCAB will move over a pre-defined circuit that holds a series of sensors below the ground, so they can’t move about independently. How would you feel stepping into a driverless taxi? I hope that such vehicles will come with safety cameras within, as you never kn (Read the full post about ‘RobuCAB People Mover’…)

Most pictures of food on the menu are misleading, if that’s one thing I have learnt from eating out in restaurants. TEC Japan helps to flesh out 2D images into a 3D format, helping eaters know exactly what they’re getting into via a 3D digital menu located right on their table. This digital menu even features a novelty function that places a 3D beef patty whenever it detects a hamburger bun placed on the menu. No idea on when this technology will be made available to restaurants, but it sure makes for a great conversation starter if you’re feeling awkward on that first date of yours. O2 has rolled out a new Windows Mobile smartphone known as the Xda Atmos. Smartphones of similar calibre are pretty much in the same boat these days when it comes to specifications and form factor - you find the hidden QWERTY keyboard when the unit remains closed, revealing itself by sliding outwards. The Xda Atmos is actually the HTC S730 repackaged, and has also seen action in Japan as the X03HT courtesy of Softbank. (Read the full post about ‘O2 Xda Atmos’…)
