Additional Motorola Z9 details leaked, will retail for $249.99
It seems that by the time the Motorola Z9 is officially released we will not have anything new to learn, so far we have seen the first leaked image way back in July 2007, then some more details hit the FCC website earlier this month, only to have the official white paper show up yesterday. Well, as of yesterday we were just waiting for a price and official release date. Now one of those two bits of information can now be checked off the list, it seems that AT&T is planning to charge $249.99 for the Z9, that is of course with a few rebates and a two-year agreement. With just a release date left to ponder, its a shame this latest leak did not let us in on that, but based on the rate of information leaks on the Z9 I would imagine that we will be seeing that in a day or two. Myka sneaks BitTorrent into the living room
Posted Mar 21st 2008 1:37PM by Paul MillerFiled under: HDTV, Home Entertainment, Media PCs OK, perhaps not so sneaky, there’s a nice big BitTorrent logo right up front, but Myka seems to be quite the end-to-end solution for getting those torrents up on the big screen. The box hooks up to the internet via LAN or WiFi, includes a 80GB, 160GB or a 500GB drive for storage and runs a torrent client on Linux. Outputs include HDMI, composite, S-Video and SPDIF, and codec support is substantial. You can add storage via USB, and pull video off your computer if you’re not in a downloading mood. Prices range from $299 to $459. Let’s keep it legal out there, kids![Thanks, ARZ]Tags: TV, high definition TV, speaker, (Read the full post about ‘Myka sneaks BitTorrent into the living room’…)

Sprint, Telus to get Curve 8830 with GPS
Sprint and Telus look set to receive the upcoming blackberry Curve 8830 that will feature GPS navigation, accompanying the original GSM model in the process. Other than the addition of GPS functionality, word has it that RIM will also augment the current storage to 80MB so that you won’t have to fill up your microSD memory card that fast. Other features include a 2 megapixel camera, while the Sprint version will see black navigation buttons make a debut. There is no word on pricing from Sprint, but Telus wants to sell the 8830 for $200 with a 3-year contract or $480 as a standalone handset. X5 HairLaser

X5 HairLaser

I remember seeing this ad in a newspaper that claimed: “Now there is an easy answer. Laser Hair Removal!” It showed a pretty woman with great legs, and I can only assume that her bikini wax was somehow done with lasers. Well, I have no idea how lasers can remove hair, but apparently they can restore hair. This is exactly what the X5 HairLaser is designed to do. This little gadget is designed to fit in your hand like a tiny scalp massager, and can blast “15 distinct points of coherent laser light directly to your scalp at the optimum power and wavelength”. Somehow, all these lasers are supposed to promote hair growth. However, it doesn’t work all at once, but it is a treatment that requires 10-15 minutes, three times a week. Treo 800w Not Available Till Summer
Palm might have sold a truckload of Palm Centros (and then some) over the past quarter, but they are still in the red, posting a loss that amounts up to double digit millions. The company doesn’t look any closer towards the road of recovery with news that the Treo 800w will not be available for EV-DO networks till summer rolls around. Summer isn’t exactly that far away, but everyone knows that timing is everything and this could be a crucial moment for Palm. Will you be getting the Treo 800w when it is released, or are you past the Palm phase already? Tags: M4A, CD, digital, wi-fi (Read the full post about ‘Treo 800w Not Available Till Summer’…)

Custom-built Xbox 360 Arcade Controller

Custom-built Xbox 360 Arcade Controller
Now take a look at this and tell me with a straight face that it isn’t a thing of beauty. The custom-built Xbox 360 Arcade Controller features high quality innards from Sanwa and Seimitsu, accompanied by LED backlighting behind individual buttons as well as a green glow that emanates from the joystick knob. Best used when the lights are turned off (just like how gamers like their environment), the custom-built Xbox 360 Arcade Controller comes housed inside an oak box with Xbox 360 green rings design on the outside. This is but a one-off thing, and it would be cool to see these being manufactured on a large scale. They’ll literally fly off the shelves methinks. Gibson fires Guitar Hero lawsuit at Wal-Mart, other retailers
Posted Mar 21st 2008 10:02AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Gaming Last we checked we actually weren’t in the Twilight Zone, but quite frankly, the bigwigs at Gibson just might be. Seemingly out of nowhere, the famed guitar manufacturer sparked up a lawsuit against Activision claiming that Guitar Hero titles violate one of its patents. Now the company appears to be on the warpath, suing Wal-Mart, Target, GameStop, Amazon, Toys ‘R’ Us and Kmart in an attempt to get the game off of store shelves. Portra-Jump is tiny, will jump start your car

Portra-Jump is tiny, will jump start your car

How many times have you gone out to start your car (truck, SUV) only to find that you’ve done something like left your headlights on? This of course means that you’re going to have a fun time trying to get it started again. Your best bet is to grab a pair of jumper cables (always carry these) and try to find someone willing to give you a jump. However, if you have a Porta-Jump, you won’t need to worry about messing with any of that. This is one of those gadgets that will become almost a necessity to carry around, provided it works as well as it boasts. The cube measures 3” x 3” x 2-1/2”, which is much smaller than any such device I’ve ever seen. (Read the full post about ‘Portra-Jump is tiny, will jump start your car’…)

Teenager designs false teeth for cats (no, really)

Teenager designs false teeth for cats (no, really)
This story brings together some of my favourite things: cats, design ingenuity and intelligent young women kicking ass. Plus, it shakes off the stereotype that British people don’t care about teeth. (We do, just not our own…) Seventeen year old British college student Rachel Gilbert has reached the final of a national competition, the Ideas Igloo Roadshow, with her design for feline false teeth. They look a little ghoulish, but have a noble purpose: “When animals suffer broken or rotten teeth, they have had to be removed,” Rachel told her local newspaper, The Sheffield Star. “The gum can become infected and they find it difficult to chew food. Emirates allows Inflight Cell Phone Calls

Emirates allows Inflight Cell Phone Calls
Emirates claims to be the first airline in the world to allow passengers to make authorized cell phone calls while in the air, with the Airbus A340 heading towards Casablanca from Dubai being the benefactor of such an honor. Passengers are allowed to make and receive not only phone calls but text messages the moment the aircraft touched the crucial cruising altitude. Emirates is thinking to retrofit other aircraft in their fleet with the interference-blocking AeroMobile system later this year , including adding blackberry and “other data services.” I wonder how the roaming charges will work then.
