Ah, Honeywell, thank you for the gift of hovering spy drones so we can always have someone to watch over us. Yes, that image you see isn’t a prop from a 1984 movie (which would still be timely, by the way), but a spy drone that can fly a 100 waypoint flight plan at 57 MPH, at a 10,500 foot altitude. Apparently, these Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) are already in place over Iraq and Afghanistan, which are hopefully watching out for enemies. They are waiting for FAA permission to be used here in American soil. According to Reuters, the Miami-Dade police department hopes to deploy these MAV guys “soon”. I was kind of hoping that we would see these flying eyes later rather than sooner, honestly. (Read the full post about ‘Micro Air Vehicles from Honeywell may be Dispatched Soon’…)

Posted Mar 26th 2008 5:12AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Laptops The fallout of the March 3rd fire at LG Chem, the second biggest S. Korean manufacturer of laptop batteries, is now clear. There’s a global shortage of batteries which won’t be relieved until LG Chem can restart the assembly lines in another 2 to 3 months. Dell claims that the shortage has already caused an increase in price for secondary or replacement batteries. ASUS says it could affect up to 40% of ASUS’ laptop shipments including the Eee PC. Once again we are learning more details about an unreleased and still unannounced product courtesy of the FCC, this time its the long rumored Asus Eee PC 900. While it may not be everything we had hoped for, we did see mention of a Bluetooth module, but still nothing on GPS, WiMAX or even the touchscreen that was ‘confirmed’ earlier by Kevin Lin. But there was one big surprise however, in the form of a multi-touch trackpad, which will allow two-finger zooming as well as two-finger scrolling. Keep reading for the good stuff…the pictures, you know you want to look. Read [FCC] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness! About a month ago I finally decided to cave and purchase an ipod Touch. To be perfectly honest, I love it, and rarely leave the house without it in my pocket. When I have WiFi access, I’ll use it to check my mail and keep up on news, which is pretty cool. I was surprised at how easy it was to use the keyboard, even if I’m still a bit slow with it. If you’re looking for something to improve your ability to type on your iphone or iPod Touch, you may consider My Touch Keys. This plastic overlay covers the entire screen of your device, save for the letters on the keyboard and the home button. This provides the much-needed tactile feedback, yet still allows you to use the touch screen features on your phone. (Read the full post about ‘Improve your iPhone typing skills’…)

This Class 1 Bluetooth device comes with a maximum working range of 100 meters (in theory, that is), making it a suitable gift for older folks who will definitely run into trouble trying to pair Bluetooth devices.

The Nintendo Wiimote has been hacked before to function in tandem with IR-equipped safety glasses, turning your regular Wii controller into some sort of virtual 3D shooter. This time, the entire experience has been upgraded although the 3D wireframed world isn’t exactly up to par for most, if not all of us serious gamers. Still, the idea of actually moving around in real life so that your virtual representation will do the same is one experience worth having - just make sure you keep all breakable and fragile objects out of the way.

It’s always interesting to watch the market get flooded with accessories when a new revolutionary product is released. Good examples would be the iPod and Wii. It seems like you can’t look anywhere without seeing an ipod dock or some strange weapon-themed holder for your Wiimote. It seems that the Eee PC may be added to that list.
