NTT DoCoMo hopes to diagnose disease, predict other misfortunes from cellphones
Posted Mar 27th 2008 8:17AM by Thomas RickerFiled under: Networking We like to think that NTT, Japan’s dominant telephone company, is a serious corporation. So when NTT DoCoMo issues a press release claiming to have successfully demonstrated the world’s first “molecular delivery system for molecular communication,” we figure this must be significant. The technology and biochemistry at the foundation sure seems to be. In an experiment, NTT DoCoMo confirmed the use of synthesized DNA to transport specific molecules through the body. The process converts chemical energy into mechanical work so there’s no need for an external power supply or control mechanism. Trakonya Mutator
Fans of force feedback peripherals in games will definitely look forward to the Trakonya Mutator - this device is hooked up to your wrist and releases a tiny shock every time you suffer damage in an FPS game. Definitely not for the faint hearted, as those shocks will surely affect your counter-attack in the game since your reflexes will go all out of whack with each jolt. The device is currently compatible with Unreal Tournament only, but there are plans to make it function in the Half-Life engine. Why has Quake been left out? OLPC Overclocked

OLPC Overclocked
The OLPC has lost its innocence, as it was only a matter of time before somebody took the time and trouble to overclock it so that the 433MHz speed is relevant to the 21st century instead of being stuck in the world of Pentium IIs and IIIs. All you need to do is to write a specific MSR (Model Specific Register) at the open firmware prompt and you’re good to go. To date, informal testing has managed to see a 30% improvement in processor speed while memory speed managed to touch 433MHz from the standard 233MHz. 1. Type “4c000014″ and press2. Type “rdmsr” and press 3. Type “u.” and press (a hex number will be displayed)4. Again, type “u.” and press (a second hex number will be displayed, write it down)Now its time to overclock. iHome’s iH69 computer / iPod speakers
Posted Mar 26th 2008 5:23PM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Home Entertainment, Portable Audio We’ve seen a number of ipod speakers with pass-through dock connectors, but we’ve never really understood the point — why would we listen to music on our iPod when we’re already sitting at the computer, which has better speakers? iHome’s latest rig, the iH69, tries to bring it all together, though, with an iPod dock integrated directly into a set of upright computer speakers.
