A new solid state drive from Panasonic was recently announced at the ongoing NAB Show. Called the Panasonic AJ-P2C064, this disc offers the ability to record more than 2 hours of DVCPRO50, 64 minutes of DVCPRO HD or AVC-Intra 100, as well as, more than 4 hours of DVCPRO footage. Sadly the new drive is yet to be officially available, as of now the pricing is still unknown, but the drive is expected to be available during the fall of 2008. At present, Panasonic only offers a 16GB or 32GB P2 card but thanks to the introduction of the 64GB P2 users will be able to take advantage of quite a bit more available recording time. The Nokia 6212 Classic is obviously not about the looks. And with a 2-megapixel camera, 2-inch TFT screen, 3G connectivity, built-in FM radio and mp3 player, it’s hard to say that it’s rocking high technology inside too. But what it does have that separates it from the gajillion other mid-level market handsets out there is the fact that it has integrated NFC or Near-Field Communications technology, which enables it to connect to other NFC-enabled devices and make content transfers easier than ever. NFC-capable handsets such as the Nokia 6212 classic, according to Jeremy Belostock, the Head of Near Field Communications in Nokia, are set to change the way mobile phone users interact with devices and services in their surroundings. by Nilay Patel, posted Apr 16th 2008 at 1:12PMUh-oh, it looks like wannabe Mac clone maker Psystar has more than one licensing issue with the Open Computer: the company didn’t get permission from developers working on the OSx86 Project to sell their work. Netkas, who developed the EFI emulator Psystar is using, posted up a blog entry yesterday calling Psystar “liars” and has re-released his code under a license that specifically forbids commercial usage. We chatted briefly with Netkas and he told us that not only did Psystar take his code without permission, it’s using other code from the project like the NVInject graphics patch developed by Gotoh, and that he contacted Psystar when he learned about the Open Computer with no results. Music lovers may want to start paying a regular visit to Starbucks every Tuesday. A new promotion they are running means customers get the chance to download either a free song or music video from iTunes.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean you’ll be able to get any song you want. Instead, a hand-picked single or video will be made available and all you have to do is grab one of the cards Starbucks’ employees will be giving out with your order. You then have 60 days to claim your free song.
The promotion is being called Pick of the Week and over 7,000 Starbucks across the US will be stocking the download cards redeemable at the iTunes Store.

Epson and E Ink have co-developed a new controller which will allow e-paper displays to feature touch control for its user interface as well as various interactive elements. I’m pretty sure this also means users will be able to write notes directly on the display, but that remains to be seen as the new controller will only be available in production quantities come this August. Since this new display is able to address a fair number of screen regions simultaneously, future devices powered by this chip will be able to boast a fast menu interface, simple animations, higher grayscale levels, and user input through typing and touch. This controller is able handle up to 16 tasks simultaneously, and has a maximum resolution management of 2,048 x 1,536. (Read the full post about ‘Epson And E Ink Have New Controller’…)

The invention of the camera phone has meant that no matter where you are you will be able to capture that precious moment using your cell phone. Of course, the camera phone has also led to another problem. There are many cell phones which have photos trapped on them because the user doesn’t know how to transfer the picture or they can’t ever find the time to do so. Alltel Wireless and Ontela have teamed up together to help solve this problem.
The two companies have announced the availability of the PhotoCopter service.

by Paul Miller, posted Apr 16th 2008 at 10:46AM Ah, D1, that most professional of video recording resolutions. Streaming Networks’ new iRecord Pro bests its previous iRecord offering with some fancy 720 x 480 recording, in addition to new DVR functionality and the ability to convert video formats without a computer. Given the quantity of content we’re consuming on the go these days, there’s certainly room for a device that can easily nab and convert video from our TV setup for some viewing on the move, but time will tell if Streaming Networks has hit the sweet spot with this $260 device. by Darren Murph, posted Apr 16th 2008 at 11:28AM We know, most of you even remotely interested in the F-200 either already own one (and you’re playing it right now, aren’t you? Don’t lie.) or are waiting intently for the Pandora. Nevertheless, the cats over at Ars Technica managed to wrap their paws around the GP2X F-200 and give it the full review treatment — needless to say, impressions were (fairly) positive. Immediately recognized as a “hybrid of Sony’s PSP and the Nintendo DS,” the gaming handheld possessed a bright, clear LCD, somewhat “tinny” speakers and the ability to chew through batteries without shame. Still, aside from a few minor niggles, the critics found it to be “well worth the $170 price tag fo (Read the full post about ‘GamePark’s GP2X F-200 handheld gets reviewed’…)

Guess you’ll still need to stick to Verizon Wireless if you want to hold the LG Voyager in your hands, as this smartphone won’t be making its way to Sprint and AT&T anytime soon according to LG representatives. These same representatives have no idea how this rumor started in the first place as well. Well, better to know it now than later, right? We’re sorry if we got your hopes up a couple days’ back.
