Asus Eee PC 900 Officially Unleashed

Posted on Apr 17, 2008 02:36:57 AM

Rumblings of the Eee PC’s second coming were heard as early as January, but now it’s official! Asus has spilled the beans on the new Eee PC 900, with noted improvements in both the screen size and storage space. As of right now, the ultra-light laptop is going for €399 ($636) in Europe, while an official stateside launch is still hazy.

Asus CEO Jerry Shen says complaints about the original model’s flexibility inspired the new iteration. "Vital feedback from a wide variety of users have been received," says Shen, "which has spurred us on to create more options to cater to different user requirements."

Shen apparently missed our gripes about the cramped keyboard. It’s back . . . with a vengeance.

Here’s a rundown of the Eee PC 900’s vitals for you spec junkies:

  • Intel Celeron-M ULV 353 (again)
  • 12GB of ssd storage for Windows XP version, and 20GB for Linux version
  • 8.9in 1024×600 display
  • 1GB of DDR2 RAM
  • Built in 802.11b/g
  • 1.3MP Webcam
  • (3) USB Hubs
  • FingerGlide navigation (think Apple’s multi-touch)
