HP has been a little up and down with their recently announced Upline service. After being announced on April 7, the service seemed promising, but was quickly taken off-line on April 18 with little explanation as to why it was going down or even for how long it would be gone. The good news is that the Upline service is now back online. According to HP the service will pretty much pick up where it left off and everything will restart automatically. Meaning any backups that you had setup will begin to run at their scheduled time, as well as any files that you have backed up or stored in your account will be just where you left them. While we’re sure that Google’s Android platform will be loaded on a bunch of new devices some time in the near future, we still haven’t heard of any manufacturer or handset maker announce when they will release something officially. Except today. VP and General Manager of T-Mobile’s Broadband and New Business Division Joe Sims has just confirmed that T-Mobile USA will be offering at least one mobile device running Google’s soon-to-be released in full Android platform, and that there will be more than one Android powered device, probably for the sake of variety, of course. BenQ has upgraded its C series digital camera lineup with two new models, the 7-megapixel DSC C750 and the 8-megapixel DSC C850. With their classic design accentuated by an elegant looking front to back leather handle, these cameras will most likely appeal to users who prefer the classic look of old manual cameras. The DSC750 and DSC850 boast of a super-shake-free mode with high ISO that can be used when the cameras are on static and movie modes. This allows for the production of clean and crisp photo and video output. BenQ has also provided users with the option to zoom in and out of scenes when recording videos in MPEG4 format at either 640 x 480 or 720 x 400 resolutions. Today I ran across this really cool jacket from a company called Zegna. The Solor JKT has collar mounted solar panels capable of charging and providing power to many small electronic devices. I’ve seen clothing like this in the past, most notably is the ScottEVest which came out sometime in early 2001, and has morphed into several different styles. The difference between the two is the Solar JKT uses the sun to power and charge your devices. The Scott Vest doesn’t provide any charging capabilities. The jacket isn’t really designed to be worn year round. If you live in a warm climate the thought of wearing a jacket all the time is just not feasible. Alltel, thanks to the two-year anniversary of MyCircle is giving a little something back to the loyal and long-term customers. Sadly all of the customers will not be getting the goods, as this offer applies only to users who are on the MyCircle 10 or MyCircle 20 plan. Those lucky customers who are celebrating two years with MyCircle will be getting an additional number for free, giving a total of 11 or 21 numbers they can call without worrying about minutes. Moving forward, Alltel is also planning on offering the additional free number for every two-year anniversary, so current customers who missed out still have something to look forward to. The Archos 605 is one of the best PMP’s Archos has to offer, and already comes with a unique feature, integrated Wi-Fi. After today, it will come with another nice, somewhat unique feature - GPS. Usually, we see GPS units coming with audio and video capabilities, not usually do we see an already established PMP that gets GPS later on. Before GPS being added as an option on the 605, it was already battling the ipod and other PMP’s, but now that it has GPS, it’s starting to look better and better. Archos added on a SiRF III GPS chip, so when this PMP is docked in a special car dock, it can deliver maps. (Read the full post about ‘Archos adds GPS to popular 605 PMP’…)

Remember what we said yesterday about SSD prices staying around the same level for a few years, but with capacity steadily increasing? It turns out we were right. Toshiba still hasn’t shipped its promised 128GB SSD, but is already talking about a 512GB version by the end of next year. Manufacturing advances will let them squeeze all that non-spinning storage into 30nm memory chips, and this will also lead to lower manufacturing costs, says Electronista. In fact, Toshiba thinks that the costs of making the drives will drop by up to 50% every year. Expect to see a similar situation to today’s hard drives: A mid range HDD costs around $100. It’s just that this year the money buys you 500 gigs, and last year it was 250GB. (Read the full post about ‘Toshiba Predicts Affordable 500GB SSDs In 2009′…)

by Paul Miller, posted Apr 23rd 2008 at 1:01PM We just got to spend a smidgen of quality time with Samsung’s new boringdaps: the S2 and S3. Gone are the pretensions of Bluetooth grandeur of the P2, these two players are about as straightforward as it gets. (Read the full post about ‘Samsung S2 and S3 hands-on’…)

According to a survey by Samsung Telecommunications America, quoted on textually.org, more than half of Democrats, Republicans and Independents would be happy to text their vote for the next President. I like the idea of voting being made simpler - I’m sure we’ve all heard that famous fact that American Idol pulls in more voters than national elections, perhaps because you can vote without leaving your house, or perhaps because presidential hopefuls are rarely as entertaining as even the worst Idol rejects.
