Man stages Wii Fit experiment to lose weight, gain fame
by Joshua Topolsky, posted May 2nd 2008 at 2:01AM About a year ago, one morbidly obese (er, a tiny bit chubby) man began a quest to find out what happens when you stop being polite and try to exercise via Wii Sports (see above). Apparently after losing 9 pounds, dropping two points from his BMI, and 3-inches from his waist, he’s ready to go again, this time with the Wii Fit. Sure, it sounds like a second-rate Super Size Me publicity stunt — and it probably is — but who doesn’t want to see just how lean the Wii’s newest accessory can get you? Now, the tubby 191 pound man will run himself through a rigorous Wii Fit program for five shocking weeks. (Read the full post about ‘Man stages Wii Fit experiment to lose weight, gain fame’…)

Ask Engadget: Which are the best full-size headphones?
by Darren Murph, posted May 1st 2008 at 5:51PMLate last year, you dear readers chimed in with your opinions for best earbuds in the land. Now, however, Ask Engadget is comin’ atcha from a slightly different angle. Take it away, Jose: “I’m looking for some good headphones for around $150. I hate earbuds (so uncomfortable and the audio quality seems to depend on the angle that they’re stuck in there,) so now I’m looking for full-on cans. I’ve been told both positive and negative things about Bose cans, but I’m looking for a few more opinions here. Help me and my ears!” Just as a note, we got the impression that Jose would be willing to stretch that budget a bit if a real winner was available just north of two bills, so feel free to pass out suggestions even if they’re a touch pricier than what was mentioned. AMD’s blog: heavy on marketing, short on insight

Posted on May 2, 2008 08:27:20 PM

I stopped by AMD’s recently announced blog again today just to see what’s up. The main link from AMD’s virtual press room has slipped down a few notches since it was originally launched on April 15th (see our coverage), but is still there near the top.

I clicked on the link expecting to see one of two things. First, it could be that there was no new information. After our initial read about AMD’s 50×15 plan, maybe that was all they had to say. Or second, more blogs about more technical information. What I did not expect to see is that which I saw, namely that this particular blog is little more than an AMD marketing ploy.

iHome Zune ZN9 Clock Radio
iHome’s pretty big when it comes to docks for both the ipod and Zune (more of the former, actually), and here’s the ZN9 Clock Radio being the latest in a long line of peripherals. The ZN9 for the Zune comes with a gradual wake or sleep feature that nudges you out of bed or puts you to sleep gently using your favorite tunes, while there is also the option to set the alarm for both weekends and weekdays. As for the ZN10 Table Radio (not pictured), this comes in a “retro-classic” wooden speaker cabinet with a line-in just in case you want to connect non-Zune devices. DigiFi’s wireless Opera headset supports a 4 person flashmob

DigiFi’s wireless Opera headset supports a 4 person flashmob
by Thomas Ricker, posted May 1st 2008 at 6:04AM We’re been fans of Kleer wireless audio technology since we first gave it a listen back at CES in January 2007. Unfortunately, lackluster products have held back its potential over Bluetooth audio. While DigiFi’s Opera headset isn’t likely to tip the balance, these headphones are interesting nonetheless. The buds ship with a mini-jack dongle and offer 10 hours of playtime and CD-quality sound. Not bad, but they also allow you to tune in up to 3 additional Opera wearing friends. Silent raves will never be the same. (Read the full post about ‘DigiFi’s wireless Opera headset supports a 4 person flashmob’…)

Mvix unveils pocket-sized MV-2500U HD multimedia drive

Posted on May 2, 2008 01:45:15 PM

by Darren Murph, posted May 1st 2008 at 1:42PM
If you’re already taken care of on the HD media streamer front, Mvix is hoping you’ll look its way for a more portable solution. The pocket-friendly MV-2500U checks in at just 5- x 3- x 0.8-inches and makes room for a 2.5-inch internal hard drive. The simple, LCD-less exterior means that you’ll need to access the interface on-screen after plugging in the (component, we presume) cables to your HDTV, after which you’ll be able to watch video files encoded in MPEG1/2/4, DVD (VOB, IFO), DivX, XviD, BivX or VCD (DAT) for both PAL and NTSC systems. You’ll also find support for AC3, MP2, MP3, WMA, OGG and M3U audio formats, and even JPEG photos can be shown in beautiful 720p / 1080i. Xobni decides against joining Microsoft

Posted on May 2, 2008 08:52:06 AM

Xobni is a name you may, or may not of heard before. This startup company has only been around for 2 years, but has already attracted the interests of Microsoft.

Their first product is a plug-in for Outlook that helps you organise your inbox. It does this by extracting information about the different people you know from the e-mails you have received from them, and forms a profile for each one. It then uses this profile to see how the different people you know are linked together. It also groups information within a profile taken from your inbox messages and associated with that person e.g. Conversations and attachments.

Garmin Nuvifone hitting AT&T for $500 plus?
by Thomas Ricker, posted May 1st 2008 at 3:26AM We know it’s coming in Q3 but the price of Garmin’s hotly anticipated Nuvifone has always been a mystery. Until now. We just received a screenshot that a helpful reader snagged from a Garmin survey. In it, our tipster was asked the following question: “Now, how likely would you be to buy the Garmin nüvifone (for yourself or as a gift) if offered by AT&T for $499.99 with a two year contract? You would be required to have both a data plan that would include unlimited Internet browsing and unlimited Navigation for $19.99 per month and one of the standard voice rate plans for a monthly fee.” So dear readers, we ask you… (Read the full post about ‘Garmin Nuvifone hitting AT&T for $500 plus?’…)

Deceive Your Way to Safety: Dummy Security Camera

Deceive Your Way to Safety: Dummy Security Camera
Many of us fear for our safety, but unfortunately only few could really afford a security system. For the rest of us, there’s always the dummy security camera. Nothing says “Careful, I’m watching your every move,” like a security camera. So if you’re going to dupe someone into believing your home is well-protected, there’s nothing better than a fake security cam. Best of all, this fake cam is equipped with blinking LED lights to actually catch people’s attention. Neat, huh? Check it out at ThinkGeek for just 7.
