Sony TG3E: world’s smallest 1080i camcorder unboxed, sized-up with 720p champ

by Thomas Ricker, posted May 2nd 2008 at 5:10AM
Get a load of what just arrived at the doorstep of our European HQ — the world’s smallest 1080i camcorder, Sony’s TG3E. Otherwise known as the TG1 in the US, this pup is small and sturdy and definitely looks the part of a Full HD (as it’s defined for camcorders) 1080i shooter. Hell, Sony somehow managed to turn that boxy design into something sexy to hold. However, Sanyo’s 720p Xacti DMX-HD700 (in red) still trumps the TG3E in size and weight. Unfortunately, it gives up significant lines of resolution in the process and uses inferior materials to boot. Fujitsu lets loose U810, T2010 tablet PCs
Fujitsu wasn’t all that specific about pricing or release details when it announced its new U810 and T2010 tablet PCs earlier this year, but it looks like both have now finally made their way out the door. In case you missed it, the big addition this time around is the inclusion of a built-in HSPA modem (and rather obvious antenna), which will run you an extra $200 on top of the $999 and $1,499 base prices for the U810 and T2010, respectively. Otherwise, you can expect the same 5.6-inch and 12.1-inch displays as before, along with the usual 800MHz Intel A110 processor on the U810 and a decidedly speedier Core 2 Duo 7600 processor on the T2010, among other specs not too different from the previous models. BodyBeat Metronome

BodyBeat Metronome
Metronomes are meant for budding musicians to keep the beat while playing a tune, and the BodyBeat Metronome is certainly out of the ordinary as it is an electronic version that clips onto your fingertip, letting you feel the beat of the music instead of listening to it. Dubbed the Peterson BB-1 BodyBeat, it sends tiny pulses down the wire to your fingertip, providing you with a silent way of learning how to concentrate whenever you play a tune on your keyboard or piano. Sure as heck beats the irritating tick-tock tick-tock of a regular metronome. The Peterson BB-1 BodyBeat retails for a shade less than a Benjamin. (Read the full post about ‘BodyBeat Metronome’…)

SUNRGI, University of Tel Aviv boast of solar power advances

SUNRGI, University of Tel Aviv boast of solar power advances
by Donald Melanson, posted May 1st 2008 at 3:49PM It looks like we’ve got a bit of intercontinental solar power action today, with Silicon Valley start-up SUNRGI and the University of Tel Aviv both recently boasting of some advances in the field, which they each unsurprisingly say could change things in a big way. For its part, SUNRGI claims that its “concentrated photovoltaic” system (pictured above) can produce as much electricity as much larger solar panels thanks to its use of lenses that magnify sunlight 2,000 times. That, they say, could allow the system to produce electricity for as little as 7 cents per kilowatt hour, or roughly the same price as coal — and as soon as mid-2009, no less.
