Nikon ain’t letting up with its flurry of press releases, and the Coolpix P6000 is the next digital camera that was announced, much to the delight of folks who want something a little bit more professional looking (and works that way, too) when it comes to digital cameras. The P6000 certainly fits the bill perfectly, coming with a whopping 13.5 megapixels that enables one to unleash the creative control of a D-SLR despite having its innards within the compact body of a Coolpix camera. The Coolpix P6000 is also very special, as it is touted to be the first Nikon digital camera that comes with integrated GPS capability, letting you remember just where all your best shots were taken many years down the road without going through the headache of trying to remember. by Ryan Block, posted Aug 9th 2008 at 7:32AM What with all this electric car business going on down on terra firma, it was clearly about time we all got to work flying the negatively-charged skies as well. The ElectraFlyer C, built by the Electric Aircraft Corporation, recently got some extended hang time on its maiden flight, powered by a 5.6 kWh lithium battery capable of flying for between 1.5 to two hours at a cruising speed of about 70 mph (and topping out at 90). Presumably close to silently. (Read the full post about ‘Current conditions favorable for ElectraFlyer C’s electric flight’…)

People of my generation (the geeks anyway) would probably think about the Mortal Kombat character when “Sub-Zero” is mentioned. But we’re not talking about that cold-blooded masked fighter in a video game, we’re talking about a new fridge unlike that one you have in your home. I really hate putting anything with a strong odour into the refrigerator knowing that everything else, even water in pitchers, would smell like it the next day. Sub-Zero promises to get rid of that problem. The kitchen fixture uses a filtration system developed by NASA which apparently helps get rid of those nasty smells. Tablet PCs are quite something, and the market is steadily growing. A company known as Quaduro Systems is taking it to the next level with the Quadpad E84. This particular notebook has an operating system with Windows XP Embedded, but it is possible to run it on XP Home and Windows XP Professional. The screen is an 8.4-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 600, and this is a sunlight readable display that can be read no matter how much glare you are receiving. It also has 1GB of RAM, 8GB SSD, plus a 1GHz Celeron processor. Other features include a PCMCIA II expansion slot, as well as a SD/CF memory card slot. It also has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, of course. Some of the other features can be seen in the attached photo, but if you’re squinting too hard to read the labels, I’ll list what I can see: a camera (megapixels unknown), hot keys, fingerprint sensor, speaker, and a scroll wheel. It also looks like it has a VGA out, headphone/microphone jack, plus a stylus holder. It appears to have just one USB port, though. I’m afraid we have no word on pricing or availability at this point. Via [ubergizmo] Keep up with the latest gadget goodness! Nikon will be releasing the Coolpix S60 this September, making it one of the latest Coolpix digital cameras available that aims to being together both form and function without compromising on either. What makes the S60 stand out from many other generic digital cameras is the 3.5″ touch screen LCD display and a new graphical user interface that literally places shooting and playback controls at the user’s fingertips. My guess is you will be requiring plenty of tissues as your mates fiddle around with your latest toy. Alternatively, you can always keep a screen cleaner handy nearby so that those pesky fingerprints can be removed any time you like. (Read the full post about ‘Nikon Coolpix S60 unveiled’…)

by Ryan Block, posted Aug 9th 2008 at 12:14AM Sony, where’s the justice? How could you mercilessly kill the nine month old PSP Extended Life Battery Kit — capable of boosting the PSP’s play time by up to 80% — while UMDs continue to be the preferred method of distribution for the system’s games and video content (thereby also heavily contributing to the device’s juice-drain)? by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Aug 9th 2008 at 3:11AM When landing or taking off in a plane, the only things you want to see on the runway are lights and stripes. Foreign Object Debris (FOD), the stuff that can get sucked into engines or even flatten a plane’s tires, has become the focus of several new technologies that are setting out to remove the bad stuff. Why do we care? Because some of these technologies call not only for little sensors mounted on runway lights, but also for robots that will cruise out, pick up the debris, and dispose of it as found in the Xsight system from Trex Enterprises. Others, like QinetiQ Airport Technologies’ debris system, displays debris on screen at the airport’s tower.
