Hava Platinum HD - TV Place-shifting

Hava Platinum HD - TV Place-shifting
If you’re looking to access all of that TV and video content you have ‘trapped’ at home, and you were thinking Slingbox, think again, because they’re not the only game in town. Enter Hava. The Hava Platinum HD arguably has more features than the Slingbox Pro. Connect any of your HiDef video sources to the Hava and then access it over your home network on your computers, or over the Internet, plus compatibility with Windows Media Center to let you create a virtual TV tuner. Hava Platinum functions as a DVR so you can pause, rewind and fast-forward in DVD quality using MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 format. You can connect it via the Ethernet (802.3) 10/100 NIC to your network, and can even view it on your mobile phone. (Read the full post about ‘Hava Platinum HD - TV Place-shifting’…)

Video: Idiot Sends Text Message While Riding Motorbike

Posted on Aug 13, 2008 10:32:56 AM

cellphones, as we know, are dangerous to use whilst driving, whether it’s the actual cellphone use or just the fact that talking is a distraction in itself. The next rung on the short ladder to the Darwin Awards is named “text messaging” and is obviously an even dumber thing to do whilst in control of a ton of speeding steel and glass.

But what comes after that? What could possibly be more dangerous, more stupid? What about reclining on a motorbike, running down the highway with no hands on the handlebars, and tapping out a text message on your cellphone? Impossible, you say?

Analyst blames iPhone chipset for poor 3G performance

Analyst blames iPhone chipset for poor 3G performance
Analyst Richard Windsor (Nomura Securities) blames chipmaker Infineon for the iphone 3G reception and performance problems. First, we don’t know for sure if Infineon is the chip supplier for the iPhone 3G, although rumors pointed to them before the launch. Secondly, I wonder if Apple is the only customer for this chipset. If not, it would be strange that the iPhone is the only device to suffer from this alleged defect. We will see if a firmware update will fix the situation (in which case the hardware is fine) or if there will be some kind of recall mechanism. In the meantime some customers are still complaining about reception issues, and apparently, there are those who think that it can’t be Apple’s fault, “because they are geniuses”… (Read the full post about ‘Analyst blames iPhone chipset for poor 3G performance’…)

You can only follow 2000 people on Twitter now

Posted on Aug 13, 2008 08:54:29 AM

You may need to choose who you follow on Twitter more carefully. Brent Csutoras reported on his blog that Twitter gave him a 2000 following limit when he tried to add Twitter account 2001 to the list of people he follows. This appears to be yet another attempt by Twitter to bring stability to their up-and-down, but still hugely popular, macro-interactive micro-blogging service. I haven’t seen the dreaded Fail Whale it a while, so these kinds of usage policy changes must be helping.

Alienware debuts Radeon HD 4870 X2-equipped gaming rigs

by Donald Melanson, posted Aug 12th 2008 at 4:36PM
Alienware has already stuffed NVIDIA’s top-end GTX 280 graphics card into its Area-51 desktop, but if that’s not your thing, you can rest assured that company is now offering the high-end comforts of ATI’s Radeon HD 4870 X2 as well. That option, which Alienware helpfully reminds us offers 2.4 teraflops of graphics power, is available in the company’s Area-51, Area-51 ALX, and Aurora desktops, each of which also offer the even pricier option of dual HD 4870 X2 cards in a CrossFireX configuration. Lenovo’s P960 handset packs a fingerprint scanner

Lenovo’s P960 handset packs a fingerprint scanner
by Darren Murph, posted Aug 12th 2008 at 4:09PMSamsung’s P960 handset has a built-in DVR, while Lenovo’s P960 includes a fingerprint scanner. Pointless trivia aside, the latter is also Lenovo’s first commercial mobile phone to incorporate fingerprint biometrics. Atrua Technologies has provided a fingerprint scanner that resides on the handset’s edge in order to provide additional security for folks (read: cheaters, FBI agents and Segway users) who simply cannot afford to let their contact list be known. Even dodgier, the phone has a VIP recording feature which “automatically records calls from designated numbers” — something that’s sure to provide hours upon hours of merriment. In-car charger with USB ports

In-car charger with USB ports
Many devices can be recharged with a USB port, but you still have to get an in-car adapter if it doesn’t come with your favorite gadget. But how do you charge your phone if the 12V outlet is already occupied by your GPS? This in-car charger might be the solution: four extra USB ports is more than enough, even for the toughest road warriors who need to keep their stuff charged at all times. We don’t know if it’s easy to install, but we do know that it costs $23. Tags: PDA, home theater, gadgets, wireless (Read the full post about ‘In-car charger with USB ports’…)
