The folks at Chumby have announced that users of the Chumby can now interact with both their Facebook and Twitter accounts. Using the Chumby a user can now access and update their status, find out what’s going on with their friends, and see the latest photos posted by their Facebook friends.

On Twitter Chumby users can access their profiles, tweets from other users, publish their own updates, and also display recent tweets based on a customized search via Twitter Search.

It’s about time that Chumby got into this space more. They had previously integrated with MySpace and Craigslist, but integrating with Facebook and Twitter is what will really put them on the map.
For me the Chumby is a nice-to-have but not a must-have. Offering the ability to have it display status updates and also giving the Chumby user the ability to update their own status directly from the Chumby is a step in the right direction.

I’m still waiting for a truly wireless, battery-operated version, though. The fact that the Chumby has to stay tethered to a power outlet is still a major con in my book. Also, in order to add a channel to the Chumby you still have to do it from your computer, instead of having the option of adding and customizing from the Chumby, too. For example, to get these new channels on my Chumby I had to login to my account on my computer, select the channels to add, and then wait for my Chumby to update. Otherwise, it’s a nice device to have around, but as I stated above, not a must-have at this stage.
