Geeky Doorbell
Doorbells are normally pretty ordinary but designer Li Jianye has different ideas with the ‘Enter’ doorbell. Doesn’t really words to describe it, it’s just a cool idea. Enterbell via designzen via Home Tone.

First plug-in Priuses to hit fleets next year
by Nilay Patel, posted Aug 31st 2008 at 5:44AM Toyota hasn’t made a huge secret of its plans to develop and sell a plug-in version of the Prius, and it the wheels are turning a little faster than we’ve heard — fleet testing of plug-in models has been pushed up to early 2009, with the goal of having “several hundred” on the road by the end of the year. One megabit EPROM cufflinks for the jetset nerd

One megabit EPROM cufflinks for the jetset nerd
by Nilay Patel, posted Aug 31st 2008 at 3:02AM Sure, we mostly kick gaming-themed cufflinks when we hit the town in our finest French cuffs, but we’re definitely looking into getting a set of these hot one megabit EPROM links to spice things up a bit. Made by Flickr user JMarler as a birthday present for a friend, they’re certainly unique — but come one, we demand at least 1GB of wrist-based storage in this day and age.[Via MAKE]Read PermalinkEmail this8 CommentsFiled under: Misc. gadgetsTags: electronic toys, video, toys, game (Read the full post about ‘One megabit EPROM cufflinks for the jetset nerd’…)

Toshiba’s SD Multi Tool and SD Photo Editor are a nice, touchable surprise

Toshiba’s SD Multi Tool and SD Photo Editor are a nice, touchable surprise
by Paul Miller, posted Aug 31st 2008 at 6:27AM Toshiba is offering up a nice respite from the inane quantity of LCDs and, um, more LCDs at IFA this year. The SD Multi Tool and the SD Photo Editor are two touchable handhelds, offering up some beefy features where similar devices lack, and also skipping over some of the more traditional MID OS features that might put these over the top — a confusing mix, but again, not an LCD, so we’re hooked. The SD Multi Tool is the real wild one, offering dual 3.5-inch touchable (finger or stylus) LCDs, rated at 960 x 480 each if the spec sheet is telling the truth — that could be a combined resolution. Manipulate Someone Else’s Digital Photo

Manipulate Someone Else’s Digital Photo
Filed in archive Photography by jim on August 31, 2008 Here's an interesting concept, try your hand at manipulating someone else's digital photo, and then compare your results with those of others. I think this is an assignment that can really stimulate one's creative juices. Instead of comparing different, manipulated photos for the purpose of gaining ideas, you get to see what someone else would do with the same photo. This can lead to a whole new way of looking at any picture, primarily your own, and realizing that there is more than one way to manipulate it. Anyway, since it's digital and Internet based it costs nothing to try so head over to this website and try your hand at a digital manipulation of the above photo and see what others come up with. Ion-mask military waterproofing technology coming to civilian garb

Ion-mask military waterproofing technology coming to civilian garb
by Darren Murph, posted Aug 31st 2008 at 12:45AMGore-Tex is fine and dandy, but the real argonauts out there know it still buckles under the most extreme conditions. Now, however, adventurists that happen upon a ridiculous amount of water could soon ford rivers (à la Oregon Trail, of course) without worrying about soggy socks. The technology, dubbed ion-mask, was originally crafted to “ensure soldiers’ clothing remained impermeable to chemical weapons,” but now shoe maker Hi-Tec has inked a deal that will being the solution to a smattering of its kicks. Reportedly, ion-mask can outperform “commercial waterproof fabrics such as Gore-Tex by more than a factor of 100,” and in testing, it maintained its breathability / waterproof abilities even after 100,000 flexes. Microsoft tries to buy its way to better searching

Microsoft tries to buy its way to better searching
Microsoft is still trying it’s hardest to compete with Google and Yahoo! for your internet searching.  It’s still trying to buy companies to do so, though it succeeded in the acquisition this time.  To help with search results, Microsoft has bought Greenfield Online, the company responsible for ciao.com.  Ciao.com is a European price comparison search engine, that is apparently quite popular. Super Nintendo controller table signals a trend
by Darren Murph, posted Aug 30th 2008 at 10:35PM Remember that fad where everyone had dining room tables of their favorite Disney character? Or the age in the 70s where tables were shaped like lava lamps? No? At any rate, the modders over at SCAD Inc. have spent all summer crafting a fully-functional Super Nintendo controller-table, which reminds us an awful lot of the fully-functional NES controller-table we saw in May of this year. So, which geek is gonna take on the N64 controller table? (Read the full post about ‘Super Nintendo controller table signals a trend’…)

Stix 200 Wiimote wannabe reviewed: it’s just as awful as we imagined

Posted on Aug 30, 2008 11:14:06 PM

by Darren Murph, posted Aug 30th 2008 at 7:14PM
Be honest here, GoLive2’s Stix didn’t stand a chance at being taken seriously, and even when one reviewer attempted to have fun with the unashamed Wiimote knockoff, he failed epically. The Stix 200 looks strikingly like Nintendo’s accelerometer-packin’ controller, though this 2D-only rip was seen as “a set of slightly unresponsive, highly inconvenient arrow keys” rather than an exciting new controller.
