by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Sep 30th 2008 at 4:10AM The last time we saw Sony’s 0.3mm OLED prototype, it was encased in lasers and protected by deathbots in an underground prison of doom. This time around, Sony is showing off the razor-thin display for all at CEATEC to see, and they went all bendy on us. The new prototype has a curve to it, perhaps foretelling some curious plans for the technology in its expensive years ahead. Despite the curve, the picture remains as sharp and contrast-heavy as one would expect from OLED. (Read the full post about ‘Sony’s 0.3mm OLED gets all bent at CEATEC’…)

It seems AT&T is still inching their way to finally announcing the blackberry Bold availability. While we still have not seen an official release date, we have already seen plenty of information that looks like it will be available in late October. Further confirmation of that time frame goes along with those recently leaked Best Buy screenshots showing an availability of October 26. These launch party dates seem to further confirm that time frame as AT&T has scheduled six events with dates ranging from October 15 through October 30. We can only hope that the Bold gets moved to an available status soon. This release has been nothing more than a long series of rumors and delays. Strangely, AT&T will be (Read the full post about ‘AT&T announce BlackBerry Bold launch party dates’…)

About a week ago, there was an announcement that there would be an auction in NYC, called the T.R.A.F.F.I.C auction, auctioning off the rights to a few “.me” domains. Right now, most domains end in .com, .org., or .edu. I didn’t think that having .me at the end of a URL would fetch so much money at an auction. However, there have been a lot of clever URL names incorporating .me. Take a look below to see which domains sold for the highest at the auction. The highest-priced domain sold was “Date.Me” which sold for $70,000. As you can imagine, this site will probably be another online dating service. The next was “Love.Me” which sold for $32,500. Again, this is probably another online dating service. Next, we have “Kiss.Me” which sold for $20,000. That’s right—another dating service. Hit by hard times? Financial markets got you worried about dropping bucks on a shiny new phone? LG feels your pain and wants to reach out to all those folks who want the sexy touchscreen-type phone with the aptly named KP500. KP as in “Kitchen Pass,” as in you won’t need to check with your significant other to buy it thanks to its super low retail price. Unfortunately, I suspect LG did not name it the KP for that reason. Is there nothing Lego cannot build? Guess not, as some hardcore Lego fans have managed to come up with an actual working electronic V8 engine that was created entirely from Lego Technic pieces. It took the inventor approximately half a year to come up with this, but I must say, the result is stunning to say the least. Good thing it doesn’t need any grease to run as things could get really messy from there onwards. Millions of disgruntled Facebook users are calling for a boycott. The reason is the popular social networking site’s new design, which changed user profiles from an all in one page to a tabbed interface. Several Facebook groups have sprung up to protest the change. One, called “1,000,000 Against the New Facebook Layout,” has nearly 3 million members, while two others, “Petition Against the New Facebook” and “I Hate The New Facebook” have over a million members each. Even though it’s extremely likely that the memberships of all three groups overlap, the numbers are still impressive. “The goal is to send a strong signal to Facebook. Photo: flattop341 / Flickr Our ‘life without a cellphone experiment’ kicked up a lot of interest from readers (not least the estimable beer sipping, budgie loving John Brownlee of BoingBoing gadgets, who openly sneers at my almost-retro Sony Ericsson P900). While my own experiment failed miserably (Brownlee: “Charlie Sorrel abandoned his quest to go a week without a cellphone within mere hours”) it’s worth looking at a few of the schemes you proposed, beginning with this quite excellent hack from regular Gadget Lab correspondent Andrea Biasi: I’ve read some time ago about an Android application which used geographical data of the GPS to use different settings for different location.
